Presidents Message

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone to the 2009 Baseball and Softball season. Our goals remain the same, to provide a safe, structured baseball and softball program which will be not only fun, but instructional as well. Cranford Baseball and Softball teams have built a strong tradition over the years and we will do our best to continue this tradition.

Volunteers Needed

We are always in need of new volunteers to assist us in all aspects of the CBSL organization. Whether it is a year long commitment or just for a day, volunteers are needed for coaching, field maintenance, snack stand management, fund-raising, etc. In closing, I would like to thank all of the volunteers who have given their time over the years to assure that all children of Cranford are given something special they can take with them for the rest of their lives, good memories, lasting friendships and lessons in sportsmanship.

Let's also remember to keep things in perspective, this is a child's game, played by children, for THEIR enjoyment!

I hope the 2009 season is enjoyable and memorable for everyone involved. If anyone has any suggestions or questions, feel free to contact me at: ND1BOB@aol.com

See you at the fields, Bob Bruns

Characteristics of a Good Coach (Excerpt from You Can Teach Hitting By: Dusty Baker)

The key to training and motivating players is a good coach. Oddly enough, knowing every aspect of the game is not as important as knowing how to communicate with players. A coach who is not particularly knowledgeable can nevertheless have a dramatic effect on his players by conveying a sense of dedication, commitment, and love for the game. Although they may not acquire many new skills or techniques, the players of such a coach will work hard, enjoy the game, and feel that they have gained a lot. By the same token, an authority of the game who cannot communicate well with his players won't create the kind of environment that is conducive to learning or improvement or fun. Indeed, we have seen instances time and time again in which such coaches have driven players out of the game.
